There are so many ins and outs when prepping your tiny home for transport. Ensuring the exterior is ready for the trip is just as important as the interior. Over the past few years, and all of the loaded miles we've traveled with tiny homes, we have created a tiny house prep checklist that has been extremely beneficial for our customers. We know each and every tiny home is unique. Not all of the prepping suggestions/tips will apply to your tiny home however, applying the ones that do will ensure a much safer delivery.

The Exterior

Remove all skirting, blocking, anchors and hurricane straps.

Double check all windows are closed and locked.

Remove piping/drainage if it sits severely low to the ground.

Remove all decking close by/surrounding the tiny home.

Make sure the AC unit is secured and/or bolted to the tiny home/tiny house trailer.

Confirm the tires are in good condition with no dry rot.

Tires should be aired up accordingly.

Check all lugs on the tiny house trailer.

The Interior

Washer/dryer should be strapped down or bolted in where it cannot tip over.

Refrigerator should be bolted to the ground or strapped where it also cannot tip over during transit.

Cabinets and kitchen drawers should be taped shut if they are not magnetic. (we recommend blue painters tape)

Ceiling fans should be removed or strapped in a way where they cannot swing back and forth.

Glass shower doors should be taped/closed where they cannot open or slam shut.

Furniture should be placed where it cannot slide around and cause damage on the inside of the home.

All decorative items and TV's should be removed from the walls.

All glassware such as plates, and coffee mugs should be put in boxes and stored safely.

Scheduling

Back in early January we were contacted by an executive at a large corporation who's employee needed her tiny home transported. She didn't need it moved a few miles, or across the state.. The unit needed to travel across the country from Indiana to California. She explained to us that she had contacted multiple transport companies who said that they transport tiny homes, but unfortunately they were unable to answer her into depth questions about the move. We assured her she had contacted the right company and that we'd make it happen! We went back and forth for a few weeks conversating and answering all questions from the employer & tiny home owner. When it comes to your home, asking all of the right questions is very important. Below is a list of questions you should ask when deciding who is transporting your tiny home.

On the Road Again

It was a snowy cold 13° in Indiana when Chris, one of our highly experienced tiny home transport specialists arrived to pick up the tiny home. He arrived on time and met our clients on site. It was very wet due to heavy snow from the previous day, now melting.. We can manage just about anything put in front of us. He got all loaded up, did a safety inspection, and hit the road. We had already planned a route ahead of time.. This is very important when inclement weather may be involved along the way.. Which it was. We made the decision to travel south before heading west with the tiny home. I-80 at this time was actually shut down in numerous locations due to icy road conditions, heavy winds, and accidents. Planning your route can be crucial, especially during the winter months. Put your trust in the One Call Logistics Team as we use advanced technology and trucking software/systems for designating a safe route. Although going the Southern route added additional mileage and time, it was the safest choice for both our driver, and our customers home. The roads still had ice on them, but overall they were much better than the route originally discussed. Chris travelled across the country making his way through each state. Slowly, and steadily he was able to get through it and arrive in San Lorenzo, CA. Luckily, upon arrival the weather was MUCH better.. Although, we were still in for a challenge....The delivery location was a super tight fit.. After careful observation we made the decision to have a skid steer come out and place the tiny home where our client needed it. Locating the right skid steer operator and the right equipment was another tough task involved. After calling 60+ companies we found the right guy.. Rick was outstanding maneuvering the tiny home just perfectly to get around the tight turns and areas needed to put it in place. Vice Burger Custom Trailer Transport

Do you like your burgers Hot & Juicy?

February is officially here! As we know, it is a short month, with that being said aligning your goals and putting in the work to keep moving forward is always the plan. 2020 was a tough year for many people including many small businesses. We absolutely love to see those small businesses overcome the challenges that they are being faced with. According to Mehak Anwar, having a game plan/goal oriented task has shown to be a "positive psychological process that is good for reinforcing personal identity, calming a sense of inner chaos, and prioritizing." Staying focused, and keeping your goals aligned with your actions plays a large role in the outcome.

Moving forward,

This weeks haul of the week is a 44ft Gooseneck Mobile Kitchen Trailer for Vice Burgers in Miami, FL. Yes I said 44ft! Spacious, and customized the trailer should be a perfect fit for the upcoming burger company. The trailer is a brand new 2021 Freedom Trailer that has a dry weight of right around 10,000lbs. Upon pick up, which was directly from a dealer in Tennessee. Our driver Daniel was able to complete a safety inspection with no problems, or delays foreseen. After completing our checklist it was time to hit the road. The trip was roughly 1,000 miles from the Nashville, TN area down to sunny Miami, FL! Our customers were in no rush which was much appreciated, and we were provided with a 3 day window for delivery. Plenty of time!

Daniel traveled through TN, down through GA, and then finally into the home stretch of FL. The weather transitioned from a chilly 30° to the perfect temperature of 75° with a nice coastal breeze. Upon arriving right around the Fort Pierce area, the driver stopped to fuel up the truck and do a quick mid trip inspection. As he was walking around the passenger side towards the rear of the trailer he noticed an odd dark dust that was coming from a few of the hubs that he could see on the tires. He called into our dispatch team right away and let an agent know so we could figure this out. The agent was able to get in touch with the dealer who then directly got ahold of the manufacturer to explain what was happening at the source of the problem. After further investigation and explanation by the driver to the manufacturer it was determined that the trailer needed to be taken in to a repair shop. We located one not too far away, and Freedom Trailers was able to over night the parts that were faulty. As expected, the parts were received the next day and the repair shop had them installed within 30 minutes. That is what team work is about! Having the right team can make a major difference when doing anything.. Being in the transport industry, things come up often. Whether it be tires blowing, traffic due to an accident, or just simply inclement weather, communication and teamwork is a necessity. Daniel hit the road and was back in route to Miami to make delivery.

Daniel arrived in Miami later that evening, and was finally able to deliver the trailer to the happy clients. Although there were a few delays with the hub issue and then traffic arriving in Miami, they were ecstatic to have the trailer home at last. We are super excited to see this trailer put in to action after all of the hard work Vice Burger and their crew have put in to make all of this happen. "Haul of the Week" Tiny House Edition

Happy Thursday! We have decided to try something new! Our upcoming blogs for the next month will consist of "Haul of the Week." This will go over one in particular transport that we did the previous week. Whether it be a tiny home, travel trailer, or heavy equipment load, we are excited to share our journey throughout the many different units we deliver.

Intro

This weeks haul of the week is a custom tiny home designed by New Frontier Tiny Homes/David Latimer, along with the craftmanship of Liberation Tiny Homes. This beautiful tiny home is roughly 40 feet long and 24,000lbs sitting flawlessly on a quad axle tiny house trailer. The design on this tiny home is very similar to the "Escher model which can can be viewed at https://www.newfrontierdesign.com/ .
Luxurious, modern, and just out right gorgeous, there is so much more to this tiny home than it's looks. Although everywhere we go with this hooked onto our truck, heads are turning as if a celebrity walked by.. It is an attention grabber, that's for sure! The open kitchen, and large master bedroom makes it feel as if it is not so tiny after all.. The opportunities are endless when it comes to tiny homes and that is why so many American's are choosing the tiny lifestyle. Are you thinking about going tiny?

Arrival

Upon arriving to the pick the tiny home up, we already had our route mapped out along with our estimated stops planned. This keeps us on track for a smooth sailing trip. When John arrived at the pick up location in PA, the first thing he did was a quick safety inspection confirming the tiny home is roadworthy and safe. For units coming directly from a builder or manufacturer, the inspection doesn't typically take as long as if it were coming from an individual who's tiny home has been sitting for 4 years. Then, it was time for him to get loaded and hook the gooseneck trailer to our Dodge. It's as simple as lowering the tailgate on the truck, backing the truck up and getting it into the proper position so that the ball is centered underneath the coupler on the tiny home trailer. And then, secure the trailer down onto the ball using the jack system. Each trailer is different and may have other steps involved. After that John is able to latch the pin and attach all safety chains and cables accordingly. Another safety check list/pre trip inspection was completed, and then it's almost time to roll.. The last thing to do is capture a few photos. Our customers love receiving photos of their tiny homes getting ready to hit the road.

The Transport

It's go time! Our driver John is ready to begin the journey. The overall trip is around 1,700 miles from Pennsylvania to Texas.. The scenery in the Northern states such as Pennsylvania is stunning. It is definitely one of our favorite places to pick up and deliver tiny homes. You may wonder "1,700 miles, how long will it take to get to Texas?" For us professionals, this trip took around 2 full days. John was able to pick the unit up on Friday morning, and deliver Sunday. Like I stated previously, this comes down to planning and mapping your route! We always make sure our customer is ready to accept delivery of their tiny home before just arriving on site. Staying in communication can really make a difference for everyone involved on all ends. Once he arrived in Texas with the tiny home we were able to coordinate a good time for meeting at the delivery site. Parking a tiny home can be challenging depending on the location selected. Upon arrival to the site, there were a few obstacles but nothing that could not be handled! After cutting down and trimming up a few tree branches, John was able to park the tiny home and maneuver it right in the perfect spot for the client.

What is hotshot trucking?

There are various meanings and definitions that can define hotshot trucking. From my viewpoint and experience, hotshot transportation is freight and equipment that is time sensitive to get to it's delivery location. The typical hot shot is a class 3-5 truck with a 30-40ft trailer. The most commonly used style trailer is a 40ft gooseneck, like captured in the photo above. This obviously differentiates with what kind of freight that is needing the expedited service. The “hotshot” term originated in the Texas oilfields and now is used nationwide. Pickup trucks and smaller trailers would make quick trips for parts and cargo that were needed to keep the fields up and running accordingly. It was a record hurricane season, and the state of Louisiana definitely took a hard hit with hurricane Laura who had wind speeds reaching 150mph and the fatal storm surge it brought along with it. One Call Logistics assisted with transporting over 20 bunk trailers, restroom trailers, and more.
