What Vehicles and Machinery Are Considered Heavy Equipment?

Big machinery is crucial for almost every construction site. Workers at construction sites use heavy equipment whether they’re working on civil projects or large-scale commercial projects. In this article, we’re going to discuss what vehicles and machinery are considered heavy equipment, what is heavy-duty equipment, and how it all gets transported from site to site.

What Is Heavy-Duty Equipment?

Heavy equipment refers to heavy-duty vehicles. These vehicles are designed to execute construction tasks that frequently involve earthwork operations. You may also know them as heavy trucks, heavy machines, heavy vehicles, engineering equipment, construction equipment, or heavy hydraulics.

What Is Considered Heavy Equipment?

Let’s answer what vehicles and machinery are considered heavy equipment. When you’re contemplating all the different pieces of main construction machines, the following can be considered depending on the type of work. However, keep in mind that some equipment can be used for different purposes.

Excavator Machine

The type of machine used varies depending on the job that needs to be carried out. These machines include the following:

  • Backhoe
  • Loader Shovel
  • Dragline
  • Tunnel Boring Machine
  • Skidsteer Loader
  • Excavator
  • Subterrene
  • Excavator Shovel

Demolition Work

Three machines are considered heavy equipment in this category. They are the demolition ball, the mechanical hammer, and the hydroforest.

Earthmoving Equipment

This category includes bulldozers, tilting trucks, and dumpers. It also includes:

  • Road Compactors
  • Scarification Machines
  • Concrete Pumps
  • Concrete Mixers

Transporting Heavy Equipment

Transporting heavy equipment isn’t simple. In order to transport heavy equipment, special high capacity convoys are needed. These convoys come equipped with solid tractors, large gondolas, and push heads competent enough to pull the load. Due to their weight and volume, great care must be taken when they get transported. It requires powerful gondolas that are sometimes explicitly designed to measure. Sometimes, the gondolas come with their own braking system and must move at slow speeds.

As wildfires become more frequent and intense across the U.S., the demand for fast, reliable emergency response grows more urgent by the year. Behind every successful wildfire containment effort is a powerful network of moving parts—from fire crews and equipment to mobile command centers, light towers, water tankers, and power units. None of it reaches the front lines without logistics . But not all logistics providers are built for crisis response. When lives, property, and natural resources are on the line, having the right logistics partner can be the difference between delay and action, between chaos and coordination.
