RV Interior
There are a few steps to take when preparing the interior of your RV:
- Remove any loose items, including hanging items like framed photos
- Disconnect both gas lines and power supply
- Lock doors, cabinets, and windows so they don’t open during transport
- Clean out the refrigerator and defrost the freezer to prevent water leakage
RV Exterior
After you’ve secured the interior, here are crucial ways you’ll need to prepare the exterior:
- Secure the cargo doors, pop-ups, and chains
- Turn on the RV and/or Battery and double-check that all the lights work: brake, parking, and turn signal
- Secure all the slide-outs
Mechanical
As you prepare to transport your RV across the country, there are also mechanic components to consider:
- Are the hitch and tow bar in place? Are they fastened securely?
- Examine fluid levels for leaks: oil, power steering fluid, transmission, and coolant
- Check the battery to see if it’s charged
Other Considerations
After you secure and check the interior, exterior, and mechanical components, there are some other considerations:
- Does the logistics company have a complete set of keys?
- Communicate any specific instructions to them ahead of time
- Plan for weather that the RV might encounter. For example, if the company is transporting it through frigid areas, fill up on antifreeze liquid
- Create a list of instructions like how to turn off propane tanks or manual overrides
- Leave the RV manual in the glovebox
