Transporting Saunas

Taylor Tefft • March 25, 2025

Transporting a sauna requires careful planning, as saunas are often large, heavy, and delicate structures. The method depends on whether you're moving a prefabricated sauna, a sauna kit, or a custom-built one. One Call Logistics assists you with transporting your sauna and how to do it safely:

1. Determine the Sauna Type

  • Prefab Sauna – Can often be disassembled into panels for easier transport.

  • Sauna Kit – Typically ships in manageable pieces and is easier to move.

  • Custom-Built Sauna – Often requires professional movers or specialized equipment.

2. Measure and Plan the Route

  • Measure the sauna’s dimensions and weight.

  • Ensure doorways, hallways, and vehicles can accommodate the size.

  • Plan the path from its current location to the transport vehicle.

3. Disassemble if Possible

  • Remove the sauna door.

  • Take off the heater/stove (drain water if it's a steam sauna).

  • Disassemble walls, benches, and flooring if applicable.

  • Label parts for easier reassembly.

4. Protect the Components

  • Wrap electrical and heating elements securely.

  • Use moving blankets, foam padding, and straps to prevent damage.

  • Secure glass doors and windows with extra padding.

5. Choose the Right Transport Vehicle

  • Small saunas can fit in a pickup truck or cargo van .

  • Larger saunas may require a trailer or flatbed truck .

  • Ensure the vehicle has proper tie-down points .

6. Secure the Sauna for Transport

  • Use straps to secure the sauna in place.

  • Keep weight evenly distributed to avoid shifting.

  • If using an open trailer, you can cover the sauna with a tarp to protect from debris and weather.

7. Reassemble at the Destination

  • Follow the reverse order of disassembly.

  • Ensure the heater/stove is properly reinstalled.

  • Check electrical and ventilation connections.

8. Consider Professional Help

  • If the sauna is too large or delicate, hire professional transporters experienced in sauna transportation such as One Call Logistics.
